Day One

Fly into San Jose, Costa Rica where we will meet you at the SJO Airport and take you out to your waiting private van. Enjoy one night in the capital city at the new Hilton Garden Inn La Sabana. Centrally located across from Costa Rica’s main central park, La Sabana, this brand new Hilton offers luxurious accommodations, easy access to nightlife and restaurants, and fantastic panoramic views of the Central Valley.

Day Two

We’ll pick you up early in the morning as you’ll be taking a short flight out to the northeast corner of Costa Rica. Your destination is the small town of Tortuguero, which is only accessible by boat or small plane since there are no roads here, just freshwater canals and pristine rainforest. Tortuguero became popular decades ago for being one of the world’s most important nesting sites for several species of sea turtles, but today savvy anglers visit to lock horns with the might ‘silver king’ and giant snook.

Once you land in Tortuguero you’ll be taken to your hotel by boat, drop off your bags and change clothes if you need to, then when you are ready one of legendary local tarpon guides will be waiting for you to take you out fishing all by 7:30 AM. Our local guides have been fishing here for nearly 30 years and are native English speakers so you won’t find anyone who knows these fish better than them.

Day Three

Let’s go fishing! Head out for another day of world class tarpon fishing. In Costa Rica the average tarpon is 80-90 lbs, but every month we jump plenty that are 100-150 lbs and a few times a year some monsters that push 200 lbs. There have been four IGFA world records set for snook, all right in this same region, so don’t skip over the river mouths! You’ll spend your nights sleeping at our favorite eco-lodge in the area, the Aninga Lodge. Here you’ll have your own private, elevated tree house deep in the mangroves where your room will come with two queen beds, ceiling fan, and a private bathroom with hot water shower.

Day Four

This day will be a travel day from Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast to Panama’s Pacific Coast, which probably is a much needed rest day for your hands and arms after fishing for tarpon for two days. After a couple short domestic flights and one hour-long international flight from San Jose, Costa Rica to Panama City, Panama we’ll have you over in western Panama and the Gulf of Chiriqui. Here you’ll stay at the all inclusive Paradise Fishing Lodge, which has been one of Panama’s most successful lodges over the past decade. Featuring nine air-conditioned rooms, a pool with swim up bar, it’s own marina, and incredible panoramic views you’ll feel the lodge picked out a very appropriate name for itself.

Day Five

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast and the incredible views, you’ll be out there soon enough! Today you are headed offshore to the famous Hannibal Bank in search of yellow-fin tuna. You’ll fish on Paradise Fishing Lodge’s fleet of 28’ and 32’ Contenders, all of which are outfitted with twin outboards, livewells, tuna tubes, and top of the line Shimano and Fin Nor tackle.

Day Six

Let’s go fishing! Head back offshore for another day of intense yellow-fin tuna action. Panama is famous for having one of the world’s best yellow-fin tuna bites, so whether it’s top water plugs, speed jigging, or live bait you’ll be sure to bend a rod and eat plenty of fresh fish this week.

Day Seven

Last day of fishing! Today is your last day of fishing in Panama so it’s your choice to head back offshore in search of more tuna, mahi, and wahoo or switch it up and try something different by fishing for roosterfish, cubera snapper, three species of jacks, snappers, groupers and more inshore. Come back and take a refreshing dip in their pool while you enjoy drink service.

Day Eight

Time to head back to reality! You’ll be taken in a private transfer back to David and then take a short 1-hr flight back to Panama City in time to catch your flight home. We hope to see you again soon!
