Package Details

  1. Day One

Fly into the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City where after passing through Immigrations and Customs you’ll be met by a representative of your first fishing lodge, Turneffe Flats. You’ll be taken in a shuttle to downtown Belize City where you will board their 50’ two-level dive boat and make your way out to the Turneffe Atoll located twenty miles off the coast. The largest of the four atolls in the western hemisphere, the Turneffe Atoll is a prized 450 sq mile marine reserve which means Tflats offers a fishery like no other lodge in Belize can.

Despite it’s remote and exotic location, Tfalts offers anglers a surprising amount of luxury and amenities. Between eight beachfront cabanas and three villas, the lodge offers 16 rooms total each equipped air conditioning, ceiling fans, private bathroom with hot water showers, safes and plenty of electrical outlets for charging cameras and phones. The main lodge is where you’ll find the bar, fly shop, and where happy hours and family-style meals are enjoyed. On site they also have a small gym, spa, dive shop, and a large deck complete with infinity edge pool. Enjoy a welcome drink, a delicious dinner, and settle into one of Belize’s best fishing lodges.

  2. Day Two

Fishing day! This morning after breakfast you’ll be given a briefing from the lodge manager about the Turneffe Atoll, the fishery, which flies to use where, and will be assigned your personal fishing guide for the week. Once your guide looks over your flies and leaders he’ll make suggestions on what you should pick up from the fly shop and then you’ll head out for your first day of permit fishing. With over 300 sq miles of water to fish there is no shortage of habitat for the elusive permit. The fleet of 16’ Dolphin Superskiffs at Tflats are the perfect fishing boat with comfortable padded seating for two anglers, rod holders for up to six rods, and a large casting platform with lean bar. With your 9 wt rod in hand your guide will put you in position to present you to tailing permit all day long, but it’s up to you to calm your nerves and make accurate casts to the famously spooky fish.

  3. Day Three

Fishing day! Enjoy another full day of permit fishing at Tflats as you wade and pole across miles of flats in search of tailing permit. One of the many things we love about fishing at Tflats is you are unlikey to see another boat out here as you are 20 miles offshore and no one but the fleet of nine skiffs at Tflats fishes here. Once you reach the end of the flat you’ll pick up and move to a fresh new one, there are plenty to choose from. After a long day of fishing come back and enjoy a hot shower then head over to the main lodge for hors d’oeuvres and some drinks before dinner.

  4. Day Four

Fishing day! If you are like us and can’t get enough fishing, wake up at 5:30 AM and fish the flats directly in front of the lodge on your own – but be warned, the Tflats bonefish are some of the smartest on Earth and can’t be easily fooled! Come back in at 7:00 AM for breakfast then head out for one last day of permit fishing at Tflats. In addition to the outer coral flats, much larger adult permit can often be found cruising in the mangroves so if you want a trophy that’s a good place to go look.

  5. Day Five

After breakfast you’ll board the Tflats boat at 7:30 AM as you head back to Belize City on the mainland. You’ll be shuttled back to the airport and then from here we’ll fly you down to our favorite beach town in Belize, Placencia. Located in southern Belize, the 16 kilometer-long peninsula is home to numerous luxury hotels and condos today, but at its heart it’s still a quiet fishing village with an authentic Belizean feel. Here you’ll stay at the brand new Naia Resort, the nicest luxury hotel on the Peninsula. Featuring just 35 private suites and villas, Naia spoils guests as each comes with air conditioning, ceiling fans, flat screen TVs, Bose sound system, wifi, mini fridge, coffee maker, private terrace with beach & ocean views, and private outdoor showers. The finer touches include Turkish bathrobes & towels, 100% cotton Matouk sheets, and signature Citrus Nectar bath amenities. The resort also offers a large 50′ infinity pool, three restaurants, bicycles, complimentary water sports like kayaks and paddleboards, and the best spa in the entire country. Take a break from fishing and enjoy Naia, trust us, you’ll love it.

  6. Day Six

Fishing day! Today you’ll head out with one of our legendary local guides for another day of permit fishing. Unlike your time at Tflats, fishing from Placencia you’ll be inside the Mesoamerican Reef where the waters are shallow and dotted with hundreds of white sand cayes. The waters off of Placencia are known as “Permit Alley” due to the perfect mix of habitat for them like miles of saltwater flats and easily accessible deep water for when they are done feeding – or get spooked by your fly. Our local guides all have over 25 years of guiding these waters and will run a 23’ skiff that features six rod holders, padded seating, and of course a large casting platform.

  7. Day Seven

Flex day – you make the call! Belize has so much to offer besides flats fishing this is your day to see what else is out there. Options from Placencia include Mayan ruins, snorkeling or diving at marine national parks, canopy zip-line tour & tubing down a river, hiking in the Cockscomb National Park, cave tubing, or of course you can enjoy a day on the beach and Naia’s world class spa. Last but not least, if none of this interests and your fever is still burning hot we can most certainly get you out fishing again!

  8. Day Eight

Fishing day! Today is your last day of fishing and your last chance to land the ever-elusive permit. In addition to miles of saltwater flats, what we enjoy about fly fishing from Placencia is the vast mangrove lagoon system located to the south. Permit here are smaller, but they are also much more aggressive and apt to take your fly. Your guide, and the weather, will direct you where to fish this day. Patience + persistence = permit!

  9. Day Nine

The Naia Resort will take you to the Placencia Airstrip for a short 45 minute flight back to Belize City. Fly home and hope you broke your permit fever!
