Day One

Fly into the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City where after passing through Immigrations and Customs you’ll be met by a representative Turneffe Flats. You’ll be taken in a shuttle to downtown Belize City where you will board their 50’ two-level dive boat and make your way out to the Turneffe Atoll located twenty miles off the coast. There are just four atolls in the western hemisphere, three of them lie in Belizean waters and at 450 sq miles Turneffe is the largest of the four.

Despite its exotic location, ‘Tfalts’ offers its guests a surprising amount of comfort and amenities. The lodge offers 16 rooms total with eight beachfront cabanas and three villas (Reef, Garden, Pelican), which can be rented privately for groups and families or as individual rooms. Each room is equipped air conditioning, ceiling fans, private bathroom with hot water showers, safes and plenty of electrical outlets for charging cameras and phones. The main lodge is where you’ll find the bar, fly shop, and where happy hours and family-style meals are enjoyed. Tflats also offers a small gym, spa, dive shop, and a large deck complete with infinity edge pool. Enjoy a welcome drink, a delicious dinner, and settle in for a week of fun on the ocean.

Day Two

Fishing day! This morning after breakfast you’ll be given a briefing from the lodge manager about the Turneffe Atoll, the fishery, which flies to use where, and will be assigned your personal fishing guide for the week. Once your guide looks over your flies and leaders he’ll make suggestions on what you should pick up from the fly shop and then you’ll head out for your first day of fishing. Tflats boasts a fishery of over 300 sq miles which includes saltwater flats, mangroves, lagoons,and reef. Whether you are a hardcore fly angler or prefer a spinning rod, the fleet of 16’ Dolphin Superskiffs at Tflats are the perfect fishing boat with comfortable padded seating for two anglers, rod holders for up to six rods, and a large casting platform with lean bar. Any fishing gear you don’t bring on your own can be rented daily from the lodge.

Day Three

Let’s go diving! The dive shop at Tflats offers 18 dives each week, most of which are done at the 65 different sites right around the Turneffe Atoll. The largest of the three atolls in Belize, Turneffe offers 35 miles of reef on the east side, protected mangroves on the west side which produce spectacular coral formations, and the southern tip attracts larger pelagic fish with the strong current that passes over a deep reef. A typical diving day at Tflats starts at 8:00 AM and includes three dives, and depending on the weather and sea conditions the run time to the dive sites can be anywhere from just ten minutes to an hour.

Day Four

Fishing day! Head out for a day of flats fishing for bonefish, permit, and tarpon – the Grand Slam. In addition to the flats fishing that has attracted fly anglers to Tflats for over three decades, you can also fish the mangroves, lagoons, and the reef with spinning gear for snappers, groupers, jacks, barracudas, tarpon and more. No matter what type of fishing you prefer your private guide for the week will be happy to put you on fish all day long.

Day Five

Let’s go diving! Weather permitting, the dive program at Tflats likes to make one trip a week out to the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, which is home to one of the most famous dive sites in the world – the Blue Hole. Another advantage of staying at Tflats is that it is just an hour away from the Blue Hole, so you’ll get there earlier and will have half the travel time that dive operations from Ambergris Caye and the mainland have to deal with. This is a full day tour with three dives – the Blue Hole, Half Moon Wall, and the Aquarium. Another highlight of this day is the picnic lunch enjoyed in the Red Footed Boobie Bird Sanctuary.

Day Six

Fishing day! Today you’ll head out with your private guide for another day of fishing. Head into the lagoons and search for tarpon to get into the water and wade the flats in search of tailing bonefish and permit.

Day Seven

Last full day in Belize so you make the call! One of our favorite things about this fishing and diving combo package at Tflats is there are no rules or defined program – you get to decide each and every day whether you want to fish or dive. It’s your final day so let your true passion guide you, or perhaps Mother Nature will help you make that decision based on what the weather is doing that morning. It’s also possible to do two dives in the morning and then come back and fish a half day in the afternoon – we are here to please!

Day Eight

After breakfast you’ll board the Tflats boat at 7:30 AM then head back to Belize City. Once on the mainland you’ll be transferred to the BZE Airport by 9:30 AM so you can catch an afternoon flight home.
