Costa Rica Fishing Report – December 2017

By: | Tags: , | Comments: 0

December kicked off the 2018 fishing season here in Costa Rica and if this is a sign of things to come we are in for another banner year.  November marked the end of the green season and we enjoyed one of the best dorado bites of the past decade.  Boats leaving from the Los Suenos Marina or the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos were almost guaranteed to catch them, some reporting as many as 20-30 in a single day!  Anytime you catch so many dorado that you start releasing them is a good day.

With that many dorado swimming around I predicted that the marlin bite this year would be spectacular, and one month into the season it has been that and more.  Last month we caught tons of blue marlin, lots of striped marlin, and a handful of bigger black marlin.  The dorado and even yellow-fin tuna have been around too so most days anglers are getting their trophy billfish while still being able to catch dinner.  Best of all, the first sailfish have started to arrive so we saw several Grand Slams last month as well.  Below is a list of the best days on the water in our latest Costa Rica fishing report – December 2017:
