Costa Rica Fishing Report – May 2019

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

May officially marks the start of Costa Rica’s green season, or rainy season as so many people so unfairly label it, and with it comes a change in the fishing seasons.  The doomsdayers believe that the seven months between May and November offer nothing but monsoon weather and the mass exodus of every game species in the Pacific, and try as we might, we can’t convince them all of anything otherwise.  For those who have open minds they’ll hear us say that May-Sept are some of our favorite months to […]

Costa Rica Fishing Report – April 2019

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

Costa Rica’s peak billfish season is a glorious time of year.  Each year for five months from December through April the Central and Southern Pacific Coast of the country is blessed with calm seas, a near guarantee of perfect sunny weather, and healthy billfish populations most countries in the world would trade anything for.  Yet they say ‘there is a runt in every litter‘, and in the case that would be the month of April.  Every year anglers and tourists flock to Costa Rica in December to kick off the […]

Costa Rica Fishing Report – March 2019

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

The final days of February ended on a hot streak with our top boats landing 20+ sailfish a day, and in March the fishing in Costa Rica didn’t skip a beat.  The first third of the month featured more outstanding sailfish reports with boats seeing double digit bites on a regular basis.  A few blue and black marlin also made their way into the spread which goes to show yet again why Costa Rica is the “billfish capital of the world”.  There were still a few mahi around as well, […]

Costa Rica Fishing Report – Feb 2019

By: | Tags: , , | Comments: 0

The fishing in Costa Rica in February 2019 picked up right where January left off with lots of marlin, solid sailfish numbers, and still plenty of tuna and mahi around to provide anglers with tasty dinners.  The first half of the month was a seamless transition from how January ended with at least a couple blue or striped marlin released most days and a handful of sailfish to go along with them.  As long as you could locate the fish, you were destined to have a great day on the […]

Costa Rica Fishing Report – January 2019

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

The 2019 peak billfish season in Costa Rica got off to a great start back in November and remained strong through the start of the new year.  The first half of January 2019 featured plenty of blue and striped marlin, an uptick in the sailfish numbers, and dorado and/or yellow-fin tuna nearly every single day. After two slower-than-normal sailfish seasons in 2017 and 2018, the return to normality in 2019 has been a most welcome occurrence.  Most of our boats from the Los Suenos Resort and the Marina Pez Vela […]

Costa Rica Fishing Report – December 2018

By: | Tags: , | Comments: 0

December officially kicked off another fishing season here in Costa Rica as the dry season weather, and the incredible offshore fishing, have made a most-welcome return.  The rainy season typically ends sometime in November, which means that it is a transition month from the green season to the dry season and every year the weather and the fishing is slightly different.  Fortunately this November, much like November 2017, featured great weather, all the mahi you could gaff, and lots of marlin.  In fact we knew 2019 fishing season was going […]

5 Things You’ll Need Fly Fishing in Belize

By: | Tags: | Comments: 0

Fly fishing in Belize is one of the most exciting vacations a saltwater fly angler can take with miles of shallow water flats and hundreds of cayes to fish, huge schools of bonefish, a healthy (and growing) population of permit, and resident tarpon for year round fishing in addition to the peak migratory tarpon season.  Fly fishing in Belize is incredibly frustrating and can be disheartening for novice and seasoned anglers alike with unpredictable weather on the Caribbean, strong winds, bonefish that can’t be fooled by even the best fly […]

Costa Rica Fishing Report – September & October 2018

By: | Tags: , , | Comments: 0

September and October are typically the slowest months of the year for fishing on Costa Rica’s famed Pacific Coast. The reason why is two-fold: these two months are typically the wettest months of the year and the heart of our rainy season, and because of that many tourists get scared away so there aren’t that many anglers out fishing. The truth is the sun shines just about every day in Costa Rica, and if you do get rain it’s almost always in the afternoon.  Unless there is a storm system […]

Costa Rica Fishing Report – August 2018

Sport fishing in Costa Rica along the Pacific Coast served up yet another fantastic month of action for anglers last month.  Sailfish were found nearly every day, there were still a few blue marlin around, and and the meat fishing continued to be off the charts good.  Boats out of the Los Suenos Marina enjoyed hot sailfish bite the first half of the month with many boats seeing 5-8 sails a day, including a couple of double digit days by the gorgeous new Super Fly boat.  The fleet at the […]

Costa Rica Fishing Report – July 2018

By: | Tags: , , | Comments: 0

The hot fishing in Costa Rica continued last month as the marlin bite surged and the great meat fishing continued.  Our fleet in Quepos and Los Suenos raked in marlin all month while the boats up in Guanacaste put up impressive sailfish numbers.  Throughout the country the great yellow-fin tuna and mahi bite continued, and we saw more and more of the elusive wahoo.  On average the size of the dorados seemed to be much smaller than earlier in the year as there were days boats would catch 20+ schoolies […]
