Inshore Fishing at Jurassic Park

Overview

The waters in western Panama have earned the nickname ‘Jurassic Park’ for one simple reason – the fish are enormous. The off-shore fishing at Coiba Island and the Hannibal Bank is world famous, but the in-shore fishing around the 200 islands in the Gulf of Chiriqui is just as awe-inspiring. Catch over 20 different species of fish, most of them of gigantic proportions, and many of which can end up on your dinner plate back at your #1 rated fishing lodge.

The saying goes at PBGFC, “If you didn’t get what you wanted it’s because you didn’t ask for it!”

Day Two

Let’s go fishing! Meet your boat down at the dock by 6 AM for a full day of in-shore fishing. With the most luxurious fleet in western Panama, the PBGFC’s boats leave nothing to be desired. Penn & Shimano reels, including Shimano Stellas rigged with braided line, tuna tubes, live wells, outriggers, downriggers, popping stations, dredges – you name it they have it. Today you’ll head out to the well known islands of Isla Parida and Isla Ladrones for an exciting day of fishing for giant roosterfish, jacks, mackerel, wahoo and different species of snapper. The in-shore fishing around these islands is fantastic not only due to the natural structure provided by the rocky coastline but also the underwater topography as the depth will change from tens of feet deep to thousands of feet deep within 8-10 miles of the island.

Day Three

Let’s go fishing! Today you’ll venture into the deep water near the world famous Isla Coiba. Central America’s largest island is home in an astounding array of marine life, including 33 species of sharks and even Pacific tarpon that made their way through the canal decades ago. Troll the coastline for roosterfish and wahoo or cast into the various river mouths that empty into the ocean for big tarpon and snook. A friendly warning – just because you are in-shore fishing doesn’t mean a hungry tuna or black marlin won’t be close to shore and take your bait. Many captains and mates have stories of being surprised by catching big marlin within a couple miles from the island.

Day Four

Let’s go fishing! Head back out on the water for another day of in-shore fishing. Today you’ll head over to famous Islas Secas, one of the best spots for roosterfish and big cubera snapper. Slow trolling live bait is a near guarantee for action, but jigging and popping are also incredibly exciting and productive. When the tide is right you can also fish the expansive mangroves right behind the PBGFC with light tackle for jacks, mangrove snappers, and snook.

Day Five

Let’s go fishing! Today you can stop by one of your favorite islands as you make your way out to our favorite spot for in-shore and bottom fishing, Isla Montousa. Better known as ‘Monster Island’ in English, Isla Montousa is actually just 10 miles away from the Hannibal Bank so it is about 50 miles from the mainland. While it’s a long run, you won’t find many places in the world where the bottom rises from several thousand feet to under a hundred feet at the base of the island. Fish for colossal cubera snapper, many in the world record range, but be prepared to release this slow growing and prized game fish. You’ll also catch red snapper, mullet snapper, grouper, amberjacks, jack crevalle, and big roaming wahoo out here. Earlier in 2014 a 15 yr old angler released not one but two big roosters that could have set the junior world record in the same morning!

Day Six

After sleeping in and having breakfast the PBGFC will take you back to David for a one hour flight back to Panama City. Once you land at the Albrook Airport you will be met and taken to your hotel in downtown Panama City, the brand new Waldorf Astoria. Spend one night in Panama’s cosmopolitan capital city as you enjoy fine dining and nightlife before you head home.

Day Seven

We will pick you up early in the morning and transfer you to the PTY Airport for your international flight home.
