Tarpon Fishing in Tortuguero
Fly into San Jose, Costa Rica where we will meet you and take you to your waiting private van. Spend your first night in the capital city’s finest boutique hotel, the Grano de Oro. This converted Victorian mansion is home to 40 rooms and the best restaurant in the city. Enjoy a delicious dinner then soak in the rooftop Jacuzzis before heading to bed early.
You will be picked early in the morning to catch your flight to Tortuguero, located just 30 minutes away on Costa Rica’s northeast Caribbean Coast. Once you arrive you’ll be met at the airstrip by the Pachira Lodge and taken by boat to the hotel just five minutes away. The Pachira Lodge is one of Tortuguero’s nicest resort type hotels as it offers guests 88 comfortable rooms, two pools, a gym, spa and three buffet meals included in your stay. Once you check in and change you’ll head out fishing right away for a full day on the Caribbean Sea. Our top guide, Primo, will be gassed up and waiting for you on his 23’ White Dove ready to use his 25 years of experience to put you on the tarpon.
Let’s go fishing! Today is another full day of tarpon fishing. Tortuguero’s advantageous location lets you run north to the famous Rio San Juan or south to the popular Rio Parismina so you always have a shot at finding them. Chances are on your first day you discovered how exciting, and frustrating, tarpon fishing can be so today is about getting more experience. Remember – bow to the king!
Take a day off and rest your muscles, we know all too well that Costa Rica’s tarpon are no joke. Use today to go on a guided tour of the fresh water canals to see amazing wildlife like monkeys, crocodiles, hundreds of birds including the tucan, red tree frogs, and if you are really lucky you can even find manatee. Tortuguero is still best known as being one of the world’s most important sea turtle nesting sites so you can tour the small town and turtle museum during the day before you head out with a guide at night to try and see one of four species coming up the beach to make a nest and lay hundreds of eggs.
Let’s go fishing! Today is your last day of fishing so if you haven’t landed that trophy tarpon today is the day. If you are tired of being beat up by the behemoths you can always target a new species like kingfish, jacks, snapper, and snook or go fish the freshwater canals with light tackle for tropical gar and rainbow bass.
Take a quick early morning flight back from Tortuguero directly to the SJO Airport and your international flight.
